Office chairs: fit before features

Use dimensions and adjustment ranges to build a shortlist, then check how the chair fits you.

Three things to check

  • Compare seat height and depth with a chair you use comfortably.
  • Check which armrests and accessories are included.
  • Try the chair where possible and read return conditions.

Price and a long feature list cannot tell you how a chair will feel. Start with the published dimensions, then try your shortlist where possible.

1. Seat height and depth

Compare the height range with a chair you already use comfortably. Seat depth and width matter too. JÄRVFJÄLLET and Ergohuman Elite Mesh II list seat-depth adjustment; the FLINTAN listing does not. The Desky specification sheet publishes a seat depth but no sliding range, so ask the retailer if that adjustment matters to you.

2. What is included?

The A$79 FLINTAN configuration excludes armrests. JÄRVFJÄLLET includes adjustable arms. Desky includes a headrest. Check the exact model and accessories rather than assuming they match a photograph.

3. Try it and check returns

Retailer ratings are not a fit test. Check assembly, delivery, showroom options and return conditions before choosing. We have not independently tested comfort or made medical claims for these chairs.
